If you or someone you know would like to volunteer a few hours a month to support policy development and financial decisions to improve the lives of children 0-5 years of age and families in Yuba County, please check out the below letter, notice and application.

Joseph W. Cassady, D.O. (Appointed: December 1, 1998; Term expires: N/A-mandated position) Health Officer, Yuba County Health and Human Services Department
Dr. Cassady is the Yuba County Health Officer, practicing preventive medicine and public health. Dr. Cassady graduated from the Ohio University College Of Osteo Medicine and has been a physician for 21 years. He has been on the First Five Yuba Commission since its inception.
Dr. Cassady currently serves as the Commission Treasurer and Secretary.
Matthew John Floe, MAOM (Appointed: April 24, 2007; Term expires: April 27, 2013)
Prevention Services Coordinator, Sutter-Yuba Mental Health
“John” is the
Prevention Services Coordinator for Sutter-Yuba Mental Health Services. He
has been responsible for Family Resource Centers at Ella and Cedar Lane
Schools. While in the Air Force, he provided advance planning for deployments
for 3,400 personnel and their families. He holds a B.S. in Workforce Education and
Development from Southern Illinois University and an M.A. in Organizational
Management from the University of Phoenix.
John currently serves as the Commission Chair.
Mary Jane Griego (Appointed: January 6, 2004; Term expires: when replaced)
Supervisor, District 3, Yuba County
Supervisor Griego was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2000, and re-elected in 2004 and 2008, serving as Chair in 2005. She graduated from local schools, and has two sons and a step-daughter. She manages the family restaurant, Duke’s Diner. She serves on 14 Boards, Councils or Commissions.
Suzanne Nobles (Appointed: January 28, 2003; Term expires: N/A-mandated position)
Director, Yuba County Health and Human Services Department
Suzanne currently serves as the Commission Vice-chair.
Melinda Staples (Appointed: September 2011; Term expires: April 2013)
Foothills Community Member/Mother
Melinda graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Early Childhood education. She served on the MJUSD budget committee, and is currently on the District Parent Advisory board, Browns Valley Elementary site council, and PTA board. She has coached soccer, taught elementary school art, and developed a fun, interactive preschool program to teach her own children as well as other parents on how to creatively educate their children. She has seven amazing children, ages 10-29 and a supportive husband.

Claudia Contreras is the FFY Office Assistant. She studied Early Childhood Education at Yuba College. She provides office and document management. She handles all Spanish-language questions or comments. Ms. Contreras is a Certified Application Assistant and Eligibility Specialist for Healthy Kids, Healthy Future and Healthy Families. She is the F5Y webmistress.

Karen Ewing is the FFY Administrative Analyst. She is a former kindergarten teacher and studied accounting at Yuba College. She is the School Readiness Coordinator, financial advisor, and program manager. Mrs. Ewing is the Local Program Administrator for the Healthy Kids, Healthy Future Insurance provided in Yuba County.
