Children exposed to high quality early learning translates into a child’s ability to create a healthy, fulfilling life.
First 5 Yuba County Funded School Readiness Programs ensure that:
- Children 0-5 are healthy and have both the academic and social-emotional skills they need to start kindergarten.
- Parents and Caregivers feel confident in their skills as their child's first teacher, are knowledgeable about child development and early learning, and feel supported in helping develop early learning and growth in their children.
School Readiness Programs include:
- Playgroups & Preschool Program: Skilled teachers lead small groups of children and parents through play and educational interactions and activities to prepare children for kindergarten, while teaching them social-emotional skills and how to get along with peers in a classroom setting.
- Family Support and Engagement: Parent workshops and connections to community resources support families in promoting their child's early learning and development.
- Comprehensive Screenings and Early Intervention: Every day, your child is growing and learning. The most important time for your child’s development is during the first 5 years of life. School Readiness programs can conduct early screenings such as the ASQ. Knowing about typical child developmental will help you monitor your child for signs they are developing appropriately or signs they may need special support to help them reach their greatest potential.
MJUSD partners with First 5 Yuba and the Yuba County Office of Education to provide a school readiness program. All children under the age five in Yuba County are eligible for free parent and child activities designed to encourage positive one-to-one interactions and provide quality time for bonding and learning.
